post New Year’s Ride to Key West, Florida

December 19th, 2009

Filed under: Events — gregmathes @ 5:00 pm

Members,

Join us for the first ride of the New Year with our annual pilgrimage to Key West.  First thing to note is that the ride will start on January 2nd,  NOT New Years day.  This was by popular request to allow recovery from the previous evening’s festivities!  In addition, there are now three options for the ride:

  1. The main ride will be leaving on Saturday morning from the Griffin Road Shell station at 7:30.  We will stop in Florida City for those of you that want to join us further south.  We will be staying the night in Key West so if you are interested in this option, please make your own arrangements for Hotels or other accommodation.  We will return the following day leaving after breakfast.
  2. The second option will be to ride down and back on Saturday.  If there is interest in this, please email me so that I can arrange for a ride leader and tail for the return portion.
  3. Ride down to Key Largo on Sunday and meet up with the returning riders from Saturday at a pre-determined lunch stop.  I may be doing this so, once again, email me directly to let me know.

The two day ride will be led by Adrian Goldfarb and Mike Engestrom.  They will each have family members driving down in cars for ride support if necessary.  I am sending the preliminary ride agenda which gives more details on times/stops.  If you have any questions, please email Adrian at goldfara@me.com.

Happy Holidays

Members,

Mark your calendars for the following dates:

Saturday, Sep 12, 2009, ABC Poker Run

Greg as you know this is the ride of the year for me.  I have done it for about 6 years now and I always try to make it a special day with special friends.  You should have the flyer still as we went over it a while back.

I will meet anyone from our group at Shell station on Griffin and I 75 at 6:30 amKSU 6:45. we will go I 75 North to Sawgrass and have breakfast at Cracker Barrel on corner of 10th and I 95 at 7:15.  Figure 40 minutes to eat and then head to WPB Harley Davidson for an arrival of approx 8:30.  Last bike out is at 9:00.

Our group is welcome to join me on the entire ride and the do the poker run as a group or they can go in their own groups.  I would really like to have a tail gunner with a radio for this ride as I expect more than usual this year in MY group from S Florida.

We will be riding a lot of real nice roads in Palm Beach and go past the Lake. If anyone is in the building industry, please bring business cards to make this a network event.  Any questions, please give my cell number or office.

Saturday-Sunday, Sep 19-20, 2009, Murder Mystery Train Tour

We will meet at the Shell Gas Station on Griffin Road just east of I-75.  Safety briefing at 8:00 a.m. and depart at 8:15 a.m.  Bring your Sunpass!  Not sure on the route yet, will depend on the weather.  We may take US 41, I-75, or US 27.  Lunch at the Island Cow on Sanibel IslandWWW.SANIBELISLANDCOW.COM  After lunch we will spend a little time riding the island and then checking into our hotel for a relaxing afternoon.  Then board the Murder Mystery Dinner Train around 6:00 p.m.  There is a package deal for hotel, dinner train/show, and breakfast Sunday morning for around $227.00 a couple.  Call 800-736-4853 to make your own reservations.  The train fills up sometimes, so don’t wait too long.  My wife Jo-Ann will be taking her car over.  If you would like to drop off a suitcase the night before for her to bring, that is fine.  Also if any ladies would like to ride with her, she would be happy to have your along.  There are only 3 seats open in her car, first come, first seated.  On Sunday, we may tour the Ford/Edison Estate before returning.  I estimate our return if we do the tour at 4pm, otherwise we should be home around noon.  Please let me know when you have made your reservations.  Please feel free to just ride over to lunch with us on Saturday and then return separately.

Saturday, October 3rd or 4th, 2009, Annual Run to the Heartland.

http://www.hra-riders.com  I am not sure if I can get off work for this ride or not.  The club has done this ride several times and always had a great time.  Let me know if you are interested.

Friday-Sunday, November 6-8, 2009, Savannah, Ga.

Not quite an Iron Butt Ride, but if you are interested, we will be leaving on Friday morning at 7:00 a.m. (Breakfast at Cracker Barrel at 6 am) and heading up to Savannah, Ga for the weekend.  It will be dash to get to Savannah early Friday night, we have reservations for a Ghost Pub Crawl Tour.  Saturday will be spent touring the local area and enjoying the Historic District.  We will return on Sunday morning stopping at Destination Daytona on the return trip.  This is a great opportunity to wear all that leather gear.  Expect cool riding temperatures.  We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in the Historic District of Savannah.  http://www.hiexpress.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hotel/savmb?rpb=hotel&crUrl=/h/d/ex/1/en/availsearch&ias=y

Saturday, November 21, 2009, Picnic Ride to Flamingo City

BYOL (Bring Your Own Lunch).  The club will provide the soda and water, you just need to bring your own lunch.  Mike and Adrian will lead this ride down to Flamingo City, Fl enjoying the great outdoors.  Most of the facilities have been destroyed in past hurricanes, but the beauty of the land is still there, not to mention some curvy roads.  We will have a chase car and cooler to carry your lunch.

Sunday, December 6, 2009, Punta Gorda Ride

One of my favorite places for lunch.  We will head over to Fisherman’s Village for lunch and some shopping.  http://www.fishville.com/

Saturday, January 2, 2010, Annual New Year’s Ride to Key West, Fl

Ok, so it’s not on New Year’s Day!  But this allows those who like to party a chance to detoxify before the ride.  This is an early morning departure with a late return.  But it’s a great ride.

There will be other rides scheduled.  If you know of a festival or something that sounds like fun, then just let me know.  Anyone can lead a ride.  It’s fun to organize a ride and you meet lots of new people.

As a side note, I did not schedule a ride to Biketoberfest in Daytona.  I don’t relish the idea of riding around a bunch of people who may have been consuming adult beverages.  Plus I don’t do well in large crowds.  If you would like to lead a ride to this event, let me know of your intentions and I will post it for you.

post Spain Motorcycle Trip - Sep 27 to Oct 4, 2009

July 31st, 2009

Filed under: Events — gregmathes @ 9:51 pm

I am going to Europe on August 18 (Denmark) and planning on staying there till early September when I will be in Spain (Ibiza). I plan on going from Ibiza to Malaga and do another Edelweiss trip - this one is Souther Spain - starting September 27 ending October 4. There is room for a few more people. The routing is Torremolinos - Marbella - Torremolinos - Grazlema - Ronda - Grazalema - Loja - Granada and back to Torremonlinos and departing back to the US from Malaga. The route covers mostly small winding roads through the Sierras and along the coast. Cost of the tour (seven days, five riding days) is $2,890 and covers bike rental (Honda CBF600, Ducati Monster, Suzuki V-Storm - or upgrade for $590.00 for BMW 800GS, R1200R, R1200GS. This rate is for sharing a room. Single room supplement is $260.00. If you want to bring along a wife, girl friend or… there is a charge of $1,940 for a passenger. This price DOES NOT INCLUDE AIR FARE.

I have ridden with Edelweiss folks before ( 2007 - Germany, Austria, France and Switzerland) and they are a first class operation. Weather should be great. Anyone interested, contact me at jjoffe@gate.net or call me at 787-232-8561 or 407-496-5250 and I can fax you a description page. Book thru me and save even more money.

Regards,

Jeffrey

September 19-20, Saturday and Sunday overnighter!

Here is the goal:  Leave on Saturday morning riding up US 27 and around the big pond.  Then head over to Ft Myers and check into a hotel, relax by the pool for a short time and then board the Seminole Gulf Railway for a Murder Mystery Train Dinner Cruise.  We have never done this before, but it looks fun.  Reservations will be required.  The website is http://www.semgulf.com  More information to come.Expect to return on Sunday afternoon early.

November 6-8, Friday-Sunday ride to Historic Savannah, Ga!

We meet at the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Pembroke Pines for breakfast at 6:00a.m. and depart at 7:00 a.m. sharp.  We will head straight up the Sawgrass, Florida Turnpike, and I-95 to Historic Savannah, Ga.  The club stopped here last October during the Fall Leaf Tour 2008.  Everybody wanted to return.  The goal is to arrive early Friday afternoon/evening.  We plan on doing an Old Town Ghost Tour.  This will give you a chance to wear those heavy leather jackets collecting dust in your closets.  We will return on Sunday taking a little slower ride coming home.  Plan on stopping at Destination Daytona for lunch.

There will be many other rides during the weekends between these posted rides.  I just wanted to get these out there now for planning purposes.  Don’t forget the ride this Saturday.  I am working Saturday morning (5:30am-1:30pm), so use your best judgment regarding severe weather.

Ride Safe,

Greg Mathes
