Reckless motorcyclists – beware: the Multi-Agency Aggressive Driving Task Force will be out in force Friday night as they continue their crackdown on Broward’s highways.

The Task Force, comprised of the Broward Sheriff’s Office Regional Traffic Enforcement Unit (RTEU), the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and over a dozen law enforcement agencies are continuing Operation “BAD” (Blitz on Aggressive Drivers) May 8th from 7:00 p.m. – midnight. This month’s blitz will cover Interstate 95 from Griffin Rd. north to the Broward-Palm Beach County line.

The Task Force will be using unconventional unmarked cars and even an eye in the sky for the first time to spot reckless motorcyclists as well as aggressive drivers in vehicles. The posted speed limit on I-95 in Broward is 65 mph but many of those ticketed in past blitzes exceeded 100 mph. In addition to aggressive drivers, speeders, “Move Over Law” and seatbelt violators will be ticketed.

South Florida leads the state in aggressive drivers. This joint enforcement effort has the BSO RTEU deputies, FHP troopers, Florida Dept. of Transportation officers and police from all over Broward zeroing in on aggressive drivers.

The task force began in 2008, introduced by Sheriff Al Lamberti, FHP Chief Miguel Guzman and Coral Springs Police Chief Duncan Foster who serves as President of the Broward County Chiefs of Police. Operation “BAD” is an ongoing effort conducted on the Interstates, toll roads and highways in Broward County. Participating agencies, in addition to those listed above, include: Coconut Creek, Davie, Florida Dept. of Transportation, Hollywood, Lauderhill, Lighthouse Point, Margate, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Plantation, Sunrise, and Wilton Manors Police Departments.
